Editorial Policy

Our commitment to independence, accuracy, and transparency
Independence Statement

YourGov.com.au is an independent publication. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any Australian government entity, political party, trade union, industry lobby group, or media organisation. Our revenue comes from commercial intelligence subscriptions and does not influence our editorial assessments.

Editorial independence is the foundation of our credibility. All scoring, analysis, and commentary is produced by our editorial team without external interference. No government agency, advertiser, or subscriber has the right to review, approve, or influence our content prior to publication.

Political Non-Partisanship

YourGov does not support, endorse, or oppose any political party, candidate, or faction. Our assessments evaluate the performance of government institutions and services, not the political positions of the governments that oversee them.

We apply the same methodology and standards regardless of which party holds office in a given jurisdiction. When election cycles result in machinery-of-government changes, we document the transition and re-baseline our assessments accordingly, without attributing performance to incoming or outgoing administrations unless the evidence clearly supports such a finding.

Staff and contributors are required to disclose any membership of, or formal affiliation with, a political party. Such affiliations do not preclude involvement, but affected individuals are excluded from editorial decisions relating to their affiliated jurisdiction.

Editorial Review Process

All published content goes through a structured review process:

  1. Data Verification: Underlying data is verified against primary sources. Automated checks flag anomalies, which are investigated manually before publication.
  2. Analytical Review: A senior analyst reviews the methodology applied, checks statistical validity, and confirms that conclusions are supported by the evidence.
  3. Editorial Review: The editorial lead reviews the piece for clarity, fairness, balance, and tone. Claims are fact-checked and language is assessed for unintentional bias.
  4. Right of Reply: For significant adverse findings, we offer the relevant agency an opportunity to comment before publication. Responses are incorporated or published alongside our analysis.
Corrections Policy

We are committed to accuracy. When we make an error, we correct it promptly and transparently.

Minor corrections (typographical errors, broken links, formatting issues) are made silently and noted in the page revision history.

Material corrections (factual errors, incorrect data, misattributions) are corrected with a clearly marked correction notice appended to the article, stating what was changed and when. If a correction materially affects a department score, the score is recalculated and the change is noted in the next monthly update.

To report an error, contact hello@yourgov.com.au with the subject line “Correction Request”. We aim to acknowledge all correction requests within two business days.

Data vs Editorial Analysis

YourGov clearly distinguishes between two types of content:

Scraped & Aggregated Data: Factual information sourced directly from government publications, open data portals, and official records. This content is presented as objectively as possible, with sources cited. We do not alter, editorialize, or selectively present raw data.

Editorial Analysis & Commentary: Interpretive content produced by our team, including department scorecards, trend analysis, and written insights. This content reflects our informed assessment and is clearly labelled as YourGov analysis. Where AI-assisted analysis is used, this is disclosed.

Conflict of Interest Policy

All staff, contractors, and contributors must declare any actual, perceived, or potential conflicts of interest, including but not limited to:

  • Current or recent (within 24 months) employment by an Australian government entity
  • Significant financial interests in companies that contract with government
  • Close personal relationships with senior public servants or elected officials
  • Membership of advisory boards, committees, or panels appointed by government

Declared conflicts are managed through exclusion from relevant editorial decisions. Our conflict of interest register is reviewed quarterly by our advisory board.

This policy was last reviewed in March 2026. For questions about our editorial standards, contact hello@yourgov.com.au
